To earn a 3Com Certified IP Telephony VCX Expert credential, you need to demonstrate competency in installing, configuring, operating, administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting VCX IP Telephony and IP Messaging systems.

It is recommended that candidates for this certification have a strong background in the following areas:
- Telecommunications - including telecommunications hardware, Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs), call routing, network and subscriber signaling, messaging, and operations and maintenance.
- Data Networking - including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), network protocols, network topologies, network management, standards, and convergence technologies.
- Linux Operating System - using and administering Linux systems.

The IP Telephony VCX Final Exam is based on product release 7.1.

| Exam Registration |
The 3Com IP Telephony VCX Expert final exam is a hands-on, practical exam. The final exam will be offered at 3Com Rolling Meadows, Marlboro and Hemel offices. The cost of the final exam is $600.00 USD.

- Any 3Com certifications obtained prior to December 1, 2005 is only valid for 1 year.
- A 3Com certification is valid for 2 years.
- Recertification requires a passing grade on the current 3Com IP Telephony VCX Expert Final Exam.
