3Com delivers affordable, standards-based, end-to-end security throughout the enterprise. To safeguard headquarters and regional facilities with unprecedented ease and cost savings, the 3Com Security Switch 6200 integrates an enterprise-class firewall, virtual private networks (VPNs), intrusion detection, antivirus, spam, and content filtering, and other functionalities into a single high-performance security platform. By doing away with multiple devices and licensing traditionally needed for comprehensive security services, this innovative platform provides extremely robust protection cost-effectively.
3Com's family of firewall systems secures the network perimeter by deterring denial of service attacks and intrusions. These sophisticated platforms also safeguard messaging and data over the WAN or Internet by encrypting traffic in VPNs.
3Com uniquely extends security into the interior of the network. 3Com Embedded Firewalls are tamper-resistant firewalls installed on network interface cards (NICs) for desktops, servers, and laptop computers. Providing robust, device-level protection, this innovative solution enforces enterprise-wide security policies, ensuring only authorized users can access databases and applications on servers and other devices.

3Com also engineers standards-based security functionality into its switching platforms. They support RADIUS authentication and access control lists (ACLs), which allow only legitimate users to retrieve designated directories or files. They enable administrators to deploy virtual LANs (VLANs) to segment network traffic and restrict access to key servers. The 3Com Switch 7700 offers Layer 3 authentication to prevent unapproved devices from joining the network and unauthorized snooping of network traffic. The 3Com SuperStack® 3 Switch 4400 provides multi-layered port control and can inspect and filter packets at wire speeds, blocking unwanted applications and protocols from the network.
To ensure the network operates at peak efficiency, the 3Com Network Supervisor management application allows the entire system to be controlled from a web browser. Administrators can centrally monitor and configure the network and its devices quickly and simply, enabling them to prevent the congestion or failures that disrupt services. The application fully integrates with RADIUS and 802.1X management features, providing real-time network maps of 802.1X clients, VLANs, and users' points of network access. The 3Com Network Administrator tool provides the same functionality in HP OpenView networks. Moreover, 3Com's family of routers delivers class-leading performance and support for VPNs and security.
For additional flexibility, the SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 PWR switch delivers electrical power over network cabling, helping to restore services if power outlets fail. The solution also offers low-cost, physical surveillance by supporting video streaming from surveillance cameras while powering the devices. Should a camera be unplugged, the system will automatically notify administrators.
Moreover, 3Com stands by its customers with extensive services and support, from needs assessments to implementation. 3Com even offers advance hardware replacement with next-day delivery for some of its solutions, helping organizations to restore services quickly in the event of disruption.
