LineSider employs three primary components as part of the overall physical architecture: the Policy Management Portal, Policy Server and Policy Enforcement Point (PEP). LineSider’s Policy Enforcement Point is the intelligent, bi-directional interactive software agent, when deployed on the 3Com Open Services Module (OSM), interacts directly with the 3Com router at a branch office or customer premise.

The LineSider Policy Enforcement Point receives policy directives, based on business objectives, from the policy server and automatically and seamlessly translates those directives into device-specific configuration updates which are then initiated on the device. The agent also delivers requested performance statistics and operational metrics in real-time that are then passed back to the portals to provide administrators an integrated view into the deployed infrastructure.
