Product FAQs

Q: Can I buy a service contract for my OfficeConnect product?
A: Yes! And if you have purchased the product within the last 90 days, you can buy service online. 3Com offers 3-Year Express 24x7xNext Business Day so that you can call 3Com technical support any time of the day or night. This service ships replacement hardware, upon request, to arrive the next business day. Enjoy three full years of comprehensive coverage at a value price. Determine the price quote for your products.
Q: What is Auto-Sensing MDI/MDIX?
A: Auto-Sensing MDI/MDIX means that every port on the switch will automatically detect the Ethernet cable type being used (straight-through or crossover) and adjust to make a link over that cable. This means that the days of having to figure out which cable to use are gone. This is a massive improvement over previous hubs and switches where this functionality was only available on one hub/switch port through the manual operation of a mechanical switch (MDI/MDIX switch or Uplink switch).
Q: Why would I want Auto MDI/MDIX? What are the benefits?
A: This feature takes away any problems that might occur with cabling difficulties. There is no longer a need to keep a stock of both straight-through and crossover cables and there is no need to worry which cable is required. The switch will automatically sense which cable is present and adjusts so that a link can be made.
Q: What is traffic prioritization(priority queuing)?
A: Traffic prioritization (priority queuing)is a method of ensuring that high-priority traffic gets delivered efficiently, even during bursts of high traffic load. In this way, traffic such as voice data and video (services which are streaming) are prioritized, helping steady picture and sound quality.
Q: Why would I want traffic prioritization (priority queuing)? What are the benefits?
A: If you have any plans to implement network telephony or any sort of video conferencing, streaming video/audio or any real-time applications on your network you will need traffic prioritization. The benefit of traffic prioritization is that it can dramatically improve the quality of priority services on the network. If traffic prioritization is not implemented then the quality of these services will depend entirely on the load on your network. If network traffic is high, the service will not work properly.
