IP Interoperability for Legacy PBXs and Applications
3Com® VoIP Gateways enable internetworking between the IP network and legacy equipment and applications, including PBXs and the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Enterprises deploy the gateways in conjunction with the 3Com IP Telephony Module, part of the 3Com Convergence Applications Suite, to mediate control signaling, handle calls, and facilitate access to IP trunking network services.

An effective overlay strategy—the internetworking of IP and legacy systems—can deliver significant cost reduction, balance financial and performance needs, and lay the foundation for new sites, users, and applications. This overlay allows staff who remain on digital PBXs to interact efficiently with co-workers on IP telephony systems, keeping productivity levels high and facilitating a smooth, phased migration to an enterprise-wide IP infrastructure.

The SIP-compliant 3Com VoIP Gateways may be positioned between the IP network and any brand of PBX to deliver calls or convergence applications such as those in 3Com IP Messaging, IP Conferencing and IP Contact Center modules. Reliable and easy to control, these devices are designed to minimize bandwidth consumption and optimize audio quality.
