Terabit Switching for the Largest Enterprises
The 3Com© Switch 8800 Family of intelligent, multilayer modular LAN switches is ideal for enterprise environments where non-stop availability of critical applications and the highest performance, security, and granular control are required.

The Switch 8800 Family provides unparalleled investment protection for the enterprise with industry-leading scalability and a flexible modular architecture, delivering high performance Gigabit and 10-Gigabit switching and routing in an IPv6-capable platform.

The Switch 8800 Family enables end-to-end connectivity and network application control with three available chassis models— featuring 14, 10, and 7 slots— providing flexibility based on the required switching capacity and port interface and density:
  • Switch 8814: Highest capacity, 14-slot chassis, with two slots supporting dual load-sharing switch fabrics and 12 slots for any combination of switching I/O modules, supporting up to 48 10-Gigabit ports or 576 10/100/1000 ports.
  • Switch 8810: 10-slot chassis, with two slots for load-sharing switch fabrics and eight slots for switching I/O modules, supporting up to 32 10-Gigabit ports or 384 10/100/1000 ports.
  • Switch 8807: 7-slot chassis, with two slots for load-sharing switch fabrics and five slots for switching I/O modules, supporting up to 20 10-Gigabit ports or 240 10/100/1000 ports.
All chassis models share the same future-proof architecture, scalable up to 1.44 Terabits per second capacity, for maximum long term investment protection.

Chassis Kits for all models include the chassis, power supply, and fan tray. Switch 8800 switch fabric and I/O switching modules are ordered separately.

A redundant switch fabric (720 Gbps performance or 360 Gbps) is an option available for the Switch 8800 for added performance and resiliency. With dual switch fabrics installed, both operate in an active, load-sharing fashion, doubling aggregate system performance while also ensuring the highest level of resiliency.

Switch 8800 family switch fabric and I/O modules include:

Switch Fabric Modules:10-Gigabit Ethernet Modules: Gigabit Ethernet Modules: Application Modules: Additional options for the Switch 8800 Family include:A current list of available options can be found under the "Required and Optional Products" tab.

  • Backplane capacity of up to 1.44 Tbps, and 720 Gbps bandwidth (Switch 8814 with dual fabrics); maximum aggregate throughput 856 Mpps (Switch 8814)

  • Local switching on modules: increases performance and reduces latency for enhanced application performance, improving the quality of video and voice traffic

  • High-density 10/100/1000 modules: up to 48 ports per module, or 576 ports per system (Switch 8814) for expandable capacity in large enterprise environments

  • Optional IPv6 routing available with purchase of Switch 8800 Advanced Feature Software, Version 5

  • Optional IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE): simplifies network deployment allowing both power and data connectivity via a single cabling infrastructure

  • IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit modules allow for ultra-high bandwidth switch-to-switch connections

  • Hardware Multicast Routing: reduced packet loss and latency times are vital for voice and video

  • Network Login: blocks all packets onto the network until users are authenticated (IEEE 802.1X RADIUS) to increase network security and enables user accountability

  • Access Control Lists (ACL's): constrains users to areas of the network they are authorized for, using Layer

  • Layer 3 Protocol Authentication: MD5 authentication prevents unauthorized Layer 3 devices joining the network, reducing snooping

  • Traffic classification: rule based packet identification (e.g. voice) and prioritization to improve quality, or block unwanted applications

  • Bandwidth rate limiting: both input and output queues control traffic and prevent saturation based on application or location

  • Bandwidth management: both input and output queues provide packet prioritization and management to prevent packet discard or delay due to congestion; vital for voice and video

  • Switch fabric redundancy available for all chassis, with purchase of second switch fabric (720 Gbps performance or 360 Gbps)

  • BGP4 (Border Gateway Protocol version 4), IS-IS (Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System), VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service) and MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) available with purchase of 3Com Switch 8800 Advanced Feature Software Version 3

  • Application modules provide network management and monitoring (Network Monitoring Module), security (Firewall Module and IPSec Module), as well as advanced capabilities in MPLS environments (VPLS Module)

  • 3Com Operating System, proven software shared across our premium enterprise products, consolidates administrative control over the switching infrastructure when using 3Com management application software such as 3Com Enterprise Management Suite and 3Com Network Director
