Lowering Switching Power Requirements

Power Use ReductionThe new generation of 3Com® switches reduce power use and carbon emissions while delivering savings that directly offset electricity operating costs.

Because 3Com Enterprise switching products consume up to 78% less power than previous generations,a move to this newer technology could provide signification savings for an organization with a typical network—100 Ethernet switches, or approximately 2,000 networked nodes.

For example, by replacing older generation 3Com switches such as the Switch 4900 with the 3Com Switch 4500G, an organization could realize savings that correspond to:

  • 79,890 kWh—the equivalent of lighting 62 homes for a year1
  • 78% or $7,770 per year on electricity costs2
  • Reduction of 56 tons of CO2 entering the atmosphere3
  • Removal of 10 cars for a year from roadways4
  • Planting 15 acres of trees5
